Am I Simply Too Old for Cosmetic Dentistry?

If you’re getting up in years, you might be “aging out” of various activities. Perhaps you can’t run as fast, or you can’t drive yourself anymore. That said, the same doesn’t apply to visits with your cosmetic dentist. There’s no age limit for these appointments. As such, you’ll never be too old for cosmetic dental work. To prove it, your local practice can show you some evidence. Here’s a summary of why cosmetic dentistry is for all ages and three senior-friendly smile procedures.

Never Too Old for Cosmetic Dentistry

Whether you’re 65 or 105, cosmetic dentistry isn’t something you’ll “age out” of. Its treatments only require decent oral health; your years aren’t a consideration. Consequently, you can qualify for any cosmetic procedure if your mouth is strong enough.

Should you suffer from dental issues, though, things change. A dentist must address these problems before doing cosmetic work. Otherwise, your poor oral health could disrupt treatment results.

Senior-Friendly Cosmetic Dental Treatments

Seniors can qualify for many cosmetic dental treatments. In particular, consider the example services listed below:

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic option that hides minor smile flaws – stains, chips, etc. To do so, it applies a tooth-colored resin onto the affected enamel surfaces. The results (ideally) will then match up and blend with your surrounding teeth.

No matter your age, dental bonding is safe and effective. Its resin is non-toxic and thus not harmful to enamel or gums. That said, remember that bonding effects only last a few years.

Metal-Free Restorations

Before now, dentists often relied on metal crowns to restore damaged teeth. Unfortunately, these caps’ usually wore down and exposed their dark-colored portions with time. The overall effect would be dark spots and bands around treated teeth.

Fortunately, many dentists now use metal-free crowns. These kinds, safe for young and old alike, are crafted from tooth-colored ceramic. They thus blend with your smile and don’t discolor from wear and tear.

Porcelain Veneers

Simply put, veneers are porcelain shells placed on the fronts of teeth. Their main use is to hide a wide variety of smile flaws – chips, stains, cracks, and even misalignments. Furthermore, their porcelain material ensures results that are highly lifelike and beautiful.

Veneer treatment, admittedly, does remove bits of your tooth enamel. However, this process doesn’t mean seniors don’t qualify for care. It’s something to note when considering whether veneers are right for you.

Your age doesn’t have to hold you back from the cosmetic dentist. Book a visit with your dental practice, then, in the coming days!
